about the RIGNEYS

At 16 years of age, my great great-grandfather, Patrick Rigney, came to America from Kings County Ireland. In 1866 he settled near Louisburg after buying a piece of land which he paid for by escorting wagon trains westward through Indian territory. Since then, six generations of Rigney’s have been farming the land in Louisburg.
Recently, we have made the decision to farm organically again. While it seems strange to have to re-learn a skill that came naturally to our ancestors we feel it will be better for our children and our local ecosystem. We are currently turning 60 acres into an organic farm with fruits and vegetables for you to pick or purchase. We are also raising grass-fed beef and free-range chickens. And of course, there’s the corn maze!
In 2003, with encouragement from siblings Lesley and Nathan, my dad carved a dinosaur maze into one of our 11-acre corn fields. People came from miles around to walk through the Louisburg Corn Maze. Each fall, my sister Shannon and brother Cale returned to the farm to help run the fall festival which we later moved to Louisburg Cider Mill. In order to cut overhead costs and have more autonomy, we moved back home to Rigney Farms this fall.
Growing up on the farm has been a wonderful experience for my brothers and sisters and me. It brings us great joy to see our children learning the same work ethic; and respect for the earth and others that we learned from our parents and grandparents. That is why we want to share it with you and your family.
At Rigney Farms we are able to offer you a more authentic farm experience complete with fresh country air and a laid-back atmosphere. And, it’s a great value!
Hope to see you soon at Rigney Farms,
Erin Rigney-Ptacek
